Lady Gaga has revealed that she suffered from abuse as teen after
being questioned by radio DJ Howard Stern over whether she had been
raped.
The Bad Romance singer appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday, where she revealed that her song, Swine, was about rape.
Stern was questioning Gaga, 28, over the song after it made headlines when she debuted the track at SXSW in March.
During the performance of the show, Gaga asked her pal, vomit
painter Millie Brown, to join her on stage and vomit paint all over her.
In defence of the show, Gaga said: "Just lighten up! It's art! My
friend Millie—she lives in London—it's her art form. She doesn't eat
food and vomit it up.
"She swallows gallons of paint, OK? She's a hardcore bitch. She
swallows paint and then she regurgitates it on canvases in rainbows and
colour.”
Of the song itself, Gaga said: "I wrote a song called 'Swine.'
The song is about rape. The song is about demoralization. The song is
about rage and fury and passion, and I had a lot of pain that I wanted
to release.
"I said to myself, 'I want to sing this song while I'm ripping
hard on a drum kit, and then I want to get on a mechanical bull'—which
is probably one of the most demoralising things that you can put a
female on in her underwear—'and I want this chick to throw up on me in
front of the world so that I can tell them, you know what? You could
never, ever degrade as much as I could degrade myself, and look how
beautiful it is when I do.'"
Stern then asked the pop star: "You keep alluding to...were you
raped?"But Gaga does not say that she was raped. She did stumble over
the answer, as she said: "I don't...I don't want to... Happy times!
Let's talk about happy things!"
Gaga, who has a long term boyfriend, actor Taylor Kinney,
continued: "I went through some horrific things that I'm able to laugh
[at] now, because I've gone through a lot of mental and physical therapy
and emotional therapy to heal over the years.
