We all tend to put celebrities on a pedestal because for some reason, we expect them to behave better than the rest of us since they’re in the public eye 24/7. With paparazzi lurking around every corner, it’s nearly impossible for any celeb to stay out of the limelight. So, since the world is always watching, don’t you think most celebrities would put a little more effort into behaving themselves and maintaining a squeaky clean image?

Well yeah, you’d think that would be the case, but the reality is celebs and bad behavior go together like Vodka and Red Bull at a Christmas party. They get arrested. They hook up with people who aren’t their spouses. They get random women preggo. They do drugs. They drive drunk. Seriously, you name it—your favorite celebs do it. And when they do, the whole world finds out about it. So without further ado, we present to you 19 celebrities who fell from grace the hardest in 2013.

Arrests

1. Chris Brown

We’d like to say that this was the first time Chris Brown “fell from grace,” but unfortunately he’s been around the block before. As we all remember, Brown gained his villain status after he brutally assaulted his popstar girlfriend, Rihanna. So you’d think that Brown would never, ever, resort to violence again, right?!?! Oh, but he did. On October 27th, Brown was arrested yet again and charged with felony assault after a fight outside the W Hotel in Washington DC. Some people never learn!

2. Emma Roberts

At 22, Emma Roberts is a fresh-faced actress who could very well become one of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Well, at least that was the case before July 7th, when she was arrested for—gasp—domestic violence! Seriously? Yup, Roberts got into a heated debate with actor boyfriend, Evan Peters, and let’s just say, it didn’t end well. Police were called and when they showed up to the hotel, they found Peters with a bloody nose and what they presumed were bite marks. Yikes! Roberts was taken into custody but when her boyfriend decided not to press charges, she was released.

3. DMX

This was definitely not the best year for famed rapper, DMX. He was arrested a whopping FOUR times in 2013, and all were driving-related offenses. Seriously, man, who gets arrested four times in one year? Sorry DMX, but it’s time to get your act together!

4. Reese Witherspoon

This one was especially shocking because, for as long as we can remember, Reese Witherspoon has been Hollywood’s golden girl. Sadly, our girl’s squeaky clean reputation was shattered after she was arrested on April 17th. The actress was in the car with her husband, Jim Toth, when they were pulled over. Toth was busted for driving under the influence, but Witherspoon stole the show when she decided to confront her hubby’s arresting officers.
A shocking video was released, in which Witherspoon can be heard shouting at police, “Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am . . . you’re going to be on national news.” Humble, much? I guess not! She was also arrested for disorderly conduct. She released a public apology, but my guess is that no one will ever forget her drunken rant and subsequently shy mugshot.

5. Aaron Hernandez

When celebrity crimes make headlines, it’s usually due to offenses like drug possession, DUI, or assault. Aaron Hernandez, however, made headlines for something much, much worse. This star football player was actually charged with murder! Yes, murder. Hernandez’s future was brighter than ever back in August of 2012 when he agreed to a 5-year $40-MILLION extension of his contract with the New England Patriots—not too shabby for a 23-year-old. Unfortunately, not even one year later, everything changed.
Hernandez was arrested on June 26th in connection with the murder of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in close proximity to Hernandez’s home. Shortly after his arrest, the Patriots officially released Hernandez from the team. When August rolled around, Hernandez should have been headed to the field for Patriots’ summer training camp, but instead he was headed straight to the courthouse. He was indicted by a grand jury on August 22nd for first-degree murder and five other gun-related charges. Hernandez is being held without bail, pending his trial.
To make matters even worse, Hernandez was recently accused of committing two other murders that took place in 2012. A grand jury is now investigating this unrelated double homicide. New charges against Hernandez have not been filed.

6. Amanda Bynes

Aside from her very public downward spiral into crazytown, Bynes was also arrested in May for reckless endangerment after throwing a bong out the window of her 36th floor apartment. Then, she was busted again after starting a fire in a random person’s driveway. After this bizarre incident, the once-promising actress was hospitalized on a 5150 psychiatric hold.

7. Lamar Odom

We had high hopes for Lamar Odom, especially since he was able to put up with the Kardashian family without ripping out his non-existent hair. He truly seemed like one of the good guys, but then he was arrested for DUI on August 30th after police pulled him over for driving too slowly on the freeway. His arrest happened just days after media outlets reported that the NBA star’s marriage was on the rocks, and that he allegedly had a drug problem.

8. Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Pistorius is a double-amputee Olympic sprinter from South Africa. Pretty impressive, right? Well yeah, that’s what we all thought, until he was arrested on February 14th for murder after his girlfriend was fatally shot inside their shared home. Pistorius claimed that he shot her accidentally, mistaking her for an intruder, but police reports later surfaced which showed evidence of prior domestic abuse between the two parties. These conflicting stories led many to believe that Pistorius was a scorned lover who murdered his girlfriend in cold blood!

9. Chad Ochocinco

And here we have yet another athlete who just couldn’t seem to stay on the right side of the law. Seriously, why is this such a trend? Anyway, ex-NFL star, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, was arrested on June 10th for slapping his lawyer’s butt in a courtroom. He was appearing in court for a probation violation stemming from a previous domestic violence charge. The whole incident resulted in a 30-day jail sentence. So, folks, a word to the wise—don’t slap your lawyer’s booty in court.

10. Jason London

Jason London starred in the cult classic, Dazed and Confused. Sadly, London’s career didn’t go very far after that, and this year he faced charges of assault and disorderly conduct after his arrest on January 27th. The reason? Well, a bar fight, of course. Oh, he also defecated in a cop car, so I’m sure he got in trouble for that too. Strangely enough, his twin brother, Jeremy London, also has a history of breaking the law.

11. Ian Watkins

You may recognize Ian Watkins as the frontman of the Welsh rock group, LostProphets. Well, turns out he is quite the heinous creep, which the whole world discovered last month. On November 26th, Watkins pleaded guilty to ELEVEN child sex offenses, including two counts of attempting to rape a baby, conspiring to rape another, and making child pornography. There are simply no words to describe our disgust and outrage.

12. CeeLo Green

Grammy winner CeeLo Green was in our good graces for many years, and his fanbase grew even more when he became a coach on the competitive singing show, The Voice, alongside Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine. Welp, that changed in November after he was accused of drugging a woman with ecstasy during a dinner date in Los Angeles. Green faced a judge in October and pleaded not guilty to the felony drug charge.

13. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus may have seen an increase in album sales this year, but her moral compass was definitely broken. The singer hacked off her hair, took off her clothes, and spoke, sang, or wrote about doing drugs whenever she got the chance. Oh, and we can’t forget her horrific VMA performance that made our eyes bleed and swear off twerking for life. I think it’s safe to say her good girl image is long gone.

14. Joe Jonas

Joe Jonas was ⅓ of the bible-thumping boy band, the Jonas Brothers. Their father was a pastor and they each wore purity rings and vowed to save themselves for marriage. But, it turns out Joe wasn’t as pure as his image suggested, and in an essay for New York Magazine, the singer let the truth come out. He admitted to drinking, doing drugs, and having sex, all by the age of 20.

15. Owen Wilson

Funny man Owen Wilson made headlines in October when he knocked up his personal trainer. Oh, and did we mention she’s married? Yikes!

16. Simon Cowell

If you thought Owen Wilson was bad, then wait ‘til you hear Simon Cowell’s baby mama drama. The music mogul got a woman pregnant. What’s wrong with that you ask? Turns out his baby mama was his close friend’s wife!

17. Justin Bieber

Like Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber’s image also went downhill this year. The singer exhibited some pretty erratic behavior, perhaps in an attempt to banish his “innocent little boy” persona. He acted out against paparazzi, yelling at them and dropping F-bombs like they were going out of style. He also got into some pretty risqué activities during a trip to Brazil where he visited a brothel and allegedly took two high-priced prostitutes back to his hotel room.

18. Dan Marino

In January, shocking reports revealed that beloved NFL hall of famer, Dan Marino, had a love child back in 2005. As the scandal developed, more and more details were uncovered. Turns out the legendary quarterback had a steamy extramarital affair with Donna Savattere who was a CBS production assistant at the time. What’s even worse is that millions of dollars were shelled out to keep the incident under wraps. Too bad nothing stays hidden forever, especially when celebs are involved!

19. Lance Armstrong

When it comes to celebs falling off their pedestals, no one hit the ground harder than Lance Armstrong. In January, the cyclist found himself at the center of one of the biggest scandals in sports history. He shamefully admitted to doping, and was then stripped of all the medals and titles he’d won throughout his cycling career. The backlash wasn’t pretty either, and Armstrong’s charity, Livestrong, plummeted. He also lost a significant amount of fans and was dropped by all his sponsors as his career came to a screeching halt. It’s safe to say that no one will ever look at Lance Armstrong the same way again.
Well folks, there you have it—19 celebs who fell from grace in 2013. Some fell harder than others, but all of them had a pretty rough year if you ask us. So, now that the year is almost over, we’re curious to see what kind of celebrity arrests, scandals, and train wrecks 2014 will bring. Will it be a whole new batch of celebs gone bad?
